What Are the Differences Between Yaskawa AC Electric Motors?

Yaskawa has a reputation for building solid AC motors, but they have several different types available on the market right now. There are many similarities, such as they all have a 3-year warranty, all are three-phase motors, all use ball bearings (except for a few notable differences), and all are UL Recognized, CSA Certified. But what are some of the differences?

BlueMAX Yaskawa electric motor from Tekwell, a Yaskawa motors distributor

MicroMAX

The MicroMAX inverter duty motors range from 1/8 to 10 HP at 1800RPM and appear in two different enclosures, the TEFC –for 20:1 constant torque and the TENV–for 1000:1 constant torque. This product line is designed for batching machines, conveyors, machine tools, packaging machines, printing equipment, or any other functions that require a steady, consistent speed at a low HP.

BlackMAX

The BlackMAX inverter duty motors range from 1/4 to 30 HP at 1800RPM at a 1000:1 constant torque in only one enclosure, the TENV. The BlackMax is heavy-duty, designed for dirty, industrial spaces used for applications such as conveyors, compressors, crane and hoist equipment, material handling, machine tools, metal processing, pumps, test stands, and textile processing.

BlueMAX

The BlueMAX is Yaskawa’s workhorse. It is a totally enclosed, inverter duty motor with HP ranging from 1 to 1250. This three-phase motor has been designed for applications needing up to a 2000:1 constant torque speed range such as conveyors, compressors, crane and hoist equipment, material handling, machine tools, metal processing, pumps, test stands, and textile processing. The BlueMAX is constructed of heavy cast iron and made for the dirtiest industrial environments.

NEMA Premium

The NEMA Premium XRI Efficiency motor configurations range from 1 to 500 HP at1800RPM. This high-efficiency motor is totally enclosed, especially for the dirtiest of industrial environments. These general-purpose, energy-efficient motors support high cycle or long run time applications such as blowers, compressors, conveyors, and many other types of industrial machine functions. But one of the biggest advantages of the NEMA Premium is the immediate energy-cost savings while running it.

SyMAX

Designed in a partnership with Marathon Electric, the SyMAX® motor combines the technology associated with magnetics and electric motor engineering to construct a permanent magnet AC motor. With HP ranging from ½ to 30 running at 1800 RPM, the use of Magnology™ provides more power for your applications with less heat, which translates into fewer electric motor repairs and a lot longer motor life.
