One of the most important aspects of an exceptional electric motor rewind service provider is the ability to determine if a rewind is needed in the first place. Performing tests such as surge and hipot testing and core tests are helpful in determining if a motor will benefit from rewinding in the first place and/or confirm that it definitely needs a rewind. And then testing the motor again after the rewinding services have been completed to make sure that it is operating the way that it should.
Electric motor repair shops can be dirty places. Working on electric motors can create dust, smoke and grime that can cause further problems for motors undergoing a rewinding service. Condensation caused by changing temperatures can also cause problems during the rewinding process, so your motor rewind shop should have a climate-controlled clean area dedicated to the rewinding process.
Getting the dirt, paint, oil, grease and other contaminants off the windings should happen elsewhere in the shop, but once it is time to do the rewind itself, the motor should be contaminant free to get the best results from the rewind. Keeping the climate controlled during the process eliminates the possibility of moisture from condensation from contaminating the process.
There is no substitute for an experienced electric motor rewind technician. Experienced techs have years of hands-on experience working with motors and can diagnose and troubleshoot any problems that might crop up during the rewind process.
Preparing your motor for an electric motor rewind can require harsh chemical-based cleaners and a lot of elbow grease to get the windings clean before the rewind even takes place, but using a specially-designed burnout oven can burn away oil, grease, paint, old insulation and other contaminants without damaging the windings or the motor itself. A state-of-the-art burnout oven can also remove contaminants that would be impossible to reach using other cleaning methods. Another option for cleaning the stator core is an ultrasonic cleaner. Both methods clean important parts and windings without causing damage to them.
Other equipment such as computer-controlled coil manufacturing machines can speed up the rewinding process, and vacuum pressure impregnation equipment that can insulate the newly wound windings in epoxy resin and get you back to being operational in no time.
